Turner, el origen.

El apellido Turner, lleva en Ecuador al menos cuatro generaciones, cabe recalcar que se trata de un apellido de origen inglés y en el caso de la familia Turner que nace en Portovelo tiene su origen en el primer Turner que llega a Ecuador quien siendo texano de origen inglés se asienta en tierra ecuatorial.
El final del siglo diecinueve marca parte de la industrialización más importante hasta la fecha en América del sur, con la llegada de las transnacionales y el desarrollo de diversos proyectos siendo estos ferroviarios, mineros, petroleros, agrícolas, entre otra causa uno de los tantos mestizajes que desde tiempo español han sido prácticamente fundamentos de nuestra nación.
Estos negocios y nacientes oportunidades económicas sin duda llaman la atención de técnicos y profesionales en cada uno de estos campos de trabajo, es así que Marcel Turner decide venir al país por la única vía lógica en aquella época que era el barco, siempre usando a Panamá como paso obligatorio y luego redirigiéndose al Puerto de Guayaquil, viaje que ha sido relatado en libros por algunos patriarcas de la minería del País, en su mayoría gringos.
Hay un capítulo de la vida de Marcel Turner que no queda lo suficientemente claro - su muerte - lo que si es cierto es que su labor inicia en Ancón, trabajando para la empresa inglesa de petróleos de la península de Santa Elena en los primeros años del siglo XX. En su momento deriva hacia Portovelo, entonces campamento de la compañía SADCo además de un prominente futuro para la minería del país, este es el paso que guiará a Marcel hacia conocer a quien se convierte en su esposa, Clara Aguilar descendiente lejano de sefarditas y con quien procrea dos hijos: LeeRoy y Ray Turner Aguilar que son los primeros Turner nacidos en Ecuador, aquí es donde los Turner en un constante ir y venir cincelan su nombre en la minería del país, teniendo presencia importante en los yacimientos mineros principales del país.
Hoy tras mas de ciento veinte años de presencia en el país, los Turner han engendrado más que descendencia, un patrimonio fundamental para la preservación y conocimiento del patrimonio histórico, minero, y cultural, en el lugar donde todo comenzó, Portovelo
Turner, the origins.
The Turner last name has been in Ecuador for at least four generations. It is an English originated last name; in the case of the Turners from Portovelo, it has its origin in the first Turner that arrived in Ecuador who was a Texan from English origin who sits on equatorial land.
The end of the nineteenth century marks part of the most important industrialization in South America, including Ecuador, with the arrival of transnationals and the development of several projects as well as: railways, mining, oil, and agricultural, among others. These were what caused one of the multiple miscegenations. The one that we are talking about took place in Portovelo, El Oro at a time when traveling was more than just an adventure.
These businesses and the emerging economic opportunities undoubtedly called the attention of technicians and professionals in each of these fields, so Marcel Turner decided to come to the country by the only logical way at that time: by ship, always using Panama as a mandatory step and then redirecting to the Port of Guayaquil, a trip that has been reported in books by some patriarchs of mining in the country, mostly gringos.
There is a chapter in Marcel`s story that is not clear enough up to now: his death. What is certain is that his work began in Ancon, working for the English oil company in Santa Elena in the early years of the twentieth century. After a time working in the petroleum fields, he changed his ambitions to Portovelo, where S.A.D.Co., a USA company, had a prominent future for mining in the country as well as opportunities for new investments in the same area. This is the step that guided Marcel towards meeting his wife, Clara Aguilar, a descendant of Sephardic Jews and with whom he procreated two children: Lee Roy and Ray Turner Aguilar who are the first Turners ever born in Ecuador. This is where the Turners began a constant coming and going and chisel their names in the country's mining history, having an important presence in one of the main mining deposits of the country.
Today, after more than one hundred and twenty years of presence in the country, the Turners have engendered more than just descendants, but also a fundamental heritage for the preservation and knowledge of the history, mining, and cultural heritage, in the place where it all began, Portovelo.
